If you are on a Windows system and all these pictures look a bit dark, that’s probably because of configuration differences between Macs and PCs, in something called “gamma” — it is an instruction to the monitor on how brightly to display images. I’m not sure if there is a way to change gamma temporarily on Windows — monitor calibration might do it — Macs use a default of 1.8 PCs 2.2
You can probably get away with just turning up your brightness 
I’m trying to avoid changing my gamma as most photo printers also use 1.8 so its easier to know what a print is going to look like.
