So close…

How?

I’m close, so close. Another couple of days and I’ll have completely ripped this indignity off my head, and I’ll be able to scratch like any self respecting dog.

That will teach them to mess with me.

If you can get what the pros use…

Once again we have proven something that is somewhat obvious. Whenever you look at the tools a professional uses to do their job, there is a reason why they pay the extra money to get those tools instead of the cheaper ones you can get at Walmart.

At least we’re not bored?

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m exhausted.

This has been a busy month; I only just realized that is all it has been – a month – when I paid my latest credit card bill and discovered there are still charges from North Van on it!

With everything going on – adjusting to the new contract, upgrading the backend infrastructure, and who remembers what else, I thought we were maxed out! Then this latest happened.

We’re back (I think)!

After one of the longer outages I think we have suffered, Ourlog appears to be back online.

We expanded the disk space over the weekend, and moved to a setup with redundant disks. Although in the end the conversion went very smoothly, getting to the smooth part didn’t go so smoothly owing to two things:

1) I don’t think I seated the new drives quite correctly at first, so they weren’t recognized completely

2) I had one configuration option set in the web server in a way that it didn’t automatically move everything.

Now that’s done, and we should be up and functional (although slow; the conversion started 17 hours ago and is now 79% complete).

It sure is nice seeing that report that says we have 1,400 GB available of 1,800 GB total, and that if we do have a drive failure we’re still online.

Isn’t technology wonderful?

It’s time for a new pair of shoes

Chris: Apparently, I need new dress shoes
Ling: what happened?
Chris: Just coming back from my walk, one of the soles seperated — seperated from the heel all the way up to the ball of the foot. Walkting the rest of the way back to the office you could hear “ker-klunk ker-klunk ker-klunk”
Ling: LOL…

“Sorry I’m out of the office?”

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Wow. Does anybody else think that mother nature was off on vacation, came back, took a look around and said “hey, who forgot to turn on summer? Do I have to do everything myself?”

This time last week I was wearing arm warmers on the way to the office, and a polar fleece in the afternoon if I wanted to sit outside.

Now we’ve got the ceiling fan in the bedroom going nonstop, all the windows open, and I’m still sleeping with just a sheet on.

Once again, when the records show this as a totally average year, I will demand to see the standard deviation.

This has actually presented a bit of an issue for me — I didn’t appreciate what that period on the seabus did on my previous commute; it was 15 minutes that I could cool down and bring my temperature back to normal.

I’m discovering now that if I go all out on the way into the office, even with a cold shower I’m still overheated when I get dressed.

So today I tried a different pace, and took a very light spin into the office, not getting my heart rate up. It worked much better.

The only problem is what it does to motivation — instead of the usual 18 minutes, taking it so slow took 19!

Why was I killing myself before?
